Yoga is an ancient practice that has stood the test of time to become one of the most popular and varied ways of improving mind, body, and soul on the planet. If you’re an aspiring Yogi or Yogini and haven’t quite found the time to make it through the doors of your first yoga studio yet, then this post is for you.
Today we are going to hopefully provide you with a little inspiration and motivation to start you on the journey to a happier, and healthier you.
Here are 5 ways that Yoga benefits you both physically, and mentally.

It’s A Great Workout
Let’s start with the most obvious reason many people look to include yoga in their life – the physical benefits. Yoga isn’t a high-intensity activity like CrossFit or spinning classes, but it still gets the heart pumping. It’s a well-rounded way to exercise that’s going to allow you to tone muscles that you never knew you had.
It’s A Stress Buster
The concentration and mindfulness required to strike the perfect pose and maintain it over a period of time is significant. All of your energy and thought processes will be in the present moment, nothing but you and your body will be on your mind (which means the other sources of stress in your life take a backseat). The therapeutic feeling you experience while in class doesn’t simply vanish when you leave the studio, you’ll feel calmer and more relaxed throughout the rest of your day too.
You’ll Sleep Better
If you’re one of the countless people who lay awake tossing and turning at night struggling to turn off their mind off before going to sleep, then you just found another benefit of yoga. The physical aspect of yoga obviously leaves you a little more exhausted (in a satisfying kind of way) compared to how you’d feel if you’d spent the evening on the couch, but the calming aspects of the practice we mentioned in the point above help you switch off your mind and drift off to sleep a little easier too.

One of the most common benefits of yoga from a purely physical point of view is the increase in flexibility and the improved range of motion it provides. It’s for this reason that you’ll be able to find professional bodybuilders (who are the size of a tank) incorporating yoga into their training routines. Your balance will benefit immeasurably too (as it’s a skill that can be improved like any other) and as you gain more experience, harder and harder poses will keep your progress moving in the right direction.
Don’t Worry: We know that beginners in our classes are going to be balancing and stretching for the first time in a very long time (or perhaps ever?) when they first join us. There are several pose modifications we demonstrate in our beginner classes that make the basic poses even easier while you’re still finding your feet.
Despite the calming yet physical nature of yoga and all the benefits it provides, the most important way it helps you is perhaps the simplest – it’s a huge amount of fun. You’re going to be making new friends with people from all walks of life who share a common interest. You’ll be spending your time with your new friends by having a whole heap of fun improving your physical body, and calming your mental state at the same time.
